PLEASE NOTE.

We get lots of enquiries about the terrain and suggested footwear for this race.
The majority of the course is Tarmac. Miles 5 - 9 look similar to the picture on the left. It's beautiful but please be aware the route is slightly looser under foot. The track is used year round, it has been in place for 40+ years. It's well trodden and worn in. We cannot promise there won't be damp sections, especially in the wooded areas. We run here year round in road shoes but some people choose a more winter based trail shoe. It's not an off road or trail shoe event but please note the difference in terrain. Miles 0-5 + 9-13.1 are all on tarmac footpaths.

How to find us

Getting to the start line

Whitwell car park- Free to runners (Approximately 10 minutes from the start line)

No parking in Barnsdale

Whitwell parking is free to competitors, but involves a short walk through the Bluebell wood to get to the start line. (it’s actually a very lovely walk). The car park is located just over 1km from the start line.

We encourage runners to make their way to Whitwell nice and early where the walk to the start line will be well signposted.

Exiting the site after the race will be easier from Whitwell.

Can you raise money for charity?

You are very welcome to walk or run for charity. We would love you to raise lots of dosh for a good cause. Our official charity is the Matt Hampson Foundation but you are very welcome to run or walk for a charity of your choice.

What is an average walking pace?

Google seems to think around 3 miles an hour. That means 4 hours will be an average finish time.

We have allowed 6 hours so only 2 miles an hour required to finish.

Can I take my own nutrition?

Yes, but please clear up after yourself. You can also take water bottles to our fill stations.

Can I take a rucksack?

Please do if you want to carry supplies. You might want some extra clothing. Unless you get warm and need to strip a few layers. You might need some snacks.

Do I need to complete the entire 13.1 miles?

Please come and enjoy the route whilst challenging yourself. Once you commit to the peninsula circuit you may as well finish (its a circular route that's difficult to access) We will have sweeper vehicles that will pick you up if you struggle or run out of steam. We won't just abandon you!
